GOLDWORK TULIP

WORK IN PROGRESS

  1. The design is painted onto cotton velveteen fabric.

  2. The design is padded with felt and crochet cotton. Some areas are padded with 3 layers of felt, some with two and the remainder with one layer.

  3. The petals of the tulip are worked in Or Nue, which is the couching down of burnished gold No. 7 Japan thread with Au Ver A Soie silk threads.

  1. The left leaf is worked in rows of Gold No. 1 1/2 twist, Fine Rococco and stem stitch in Au Ver a Soie silk thread.

  2. The back of the right leaf is worked in rows of Fine Rococco and stem stitch in Au Ver a Soie silk thread. The front of the leaf is worked in Super Pearl Purl, No. 1 1/2 Twist and stem stitch in Au Ver a Soie silk thread.

  3. The left small leaf is worked in Super Pearl Purl, No. 1 1/2 Twist and stem stitch in Au Ver a Soie silk thread. All the leaves and petals are outlined in either No. 1 Pearl Purl or Super Pearl Purl.

  4. The stem is worked in No. 7 Rough Purl, sewing down chips (beads) at a diagonal over the crochet cotton padding. The grass at the bottom of the tulip of worked in s-ing using chips of No. 7 Smooth Purl.

  1. #12 and #14 Spangles are sewn down randomly at the bottom of the tulip to represent the earth.

Height: 7 1/2 inches (18 3/ 4 cm)     Width: 3 3/4 inches (9 1/2 cm)

PREPARATION TIME

Tracing the design, prick and pounce method of transfer, and placing the fabric into the stretcher bar frame: 1 hour

Burnished Gold No. 7 Japan Thread, No. 1 /12 Twist, Fine Rococco, Super Pearl Purl, No. 1 Pearl Purl, Spangles, No. 7 Rough Purl, No. 7 Smooth Purl, 6 Shades of Au Ver A Soie Silk Threads, Yellow Polyester Sewing Thread.
