CAT - NEEDLE PAINTING
WORK IN PROGRESS
The
cat is worked in the method of needle painting which is the blending
of straight long and short stitches using different shades of DMC floss.
The
outline of the cat is traced on to tracing paper and then
transferred onto the fabric using the prick
and pounce method.
The
design was hand painted onto the fabric using white acrylic paints.
The
mane of the cat is embroidered in five shades of white and off white
DMC embroidery floss. I begin at the bottom of the mane working up to
underneath the chin of the cat, working long and short stitches with
a single strand of the floss in a No. 10 embroidery needle at one time.
Next
the top of the head is worked and then each of the ears. The stripes
on the forehead are worked down to the eyes and beneath the right
eye. Great care it taken to angle the straight stitches in the
direction in which the fur lies, blending the colours together so
that the hairs look as if they are laying on top of each other. The
white striped running down the nose is worked and the white areas
beneath the eyes.
The
chin and lip are worked and then the cheeks of the cat.
Finally
the nose and eyes of the cat are worked.
I
then check over the embroidery adding in the whiskers and additional
stitches for character where necessary.
