APPLE BLOSSOMS: 2-SIDED (REVERSIBLE) EMBROIDERY SURFACE EMBROIDERY The apple blossoms are reversible embroidery worked on one piece of fabric. This unusual technique was traditionally used to adorn flags, so that the fabric was light enough to blow in the wind. Detailed instructions with lots of diagrams simplify this impressive looking technique. The embroidery is worked in a single strand of No. 8 Perle cotton which is an easy thread to work the two-sided stitches in. There are two designs to choose from and two pieces of fabric in the kit. The flowers are worked in a padded satin stitch, the smaller leaves are worked in a satin stitch or padded satin stitch an the larger leaves are worked in long and short stitch using two colours. The buds are worked in a padded satin stitch and stems worked in stem stitch. The branch is worked in long and short stitch.  This is a great design for learning the principles of hand embroidery and improving your embroidery technique such as the control of angle, placement and spacing of stitches.
