PANSIES - NEEDLE PAINTING

All three Pansy needle painting embroidery kits are for beginner embroiderers.

All the Pansy kits have detailed instructions and lots of diagrams to guide your through the embroidery.  The diagrams are very clear and detailed showing how the stitches are worked on each area of the design and guiding you step by step through the embroidery from the beginning  to the end.  The diagrams are also drawn specifically for each pansy embroidery and there are no generalized diagrams.

The fabric comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design and the threads come wrapped on a long floss bobbin and numbered so you know exactly which colour to use.

Working the embroidery: Each Pansy embroidery is worked in a single strand of the DMC floss or Needle Point Silk Thread in the needle at one time, embroidering the design in straight stitches. These stitches are either long and short or are all the same length but alternate in positions so that the colours blend together. The long and short technique is explained in detail in the kit instruction booklet.

This technique will give an embroiderer good practice in the long and short technique, gaining the skills the embroiderer needs to tackle the more advanced needle painting projects i.e. the field mouse and the birds.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

PEONY TYPE DAHLIA (KNPD)

The Peony Type Dahlia is an advanced needle painting technique.

I highly recommended that you try at least one of the beginners or intermediate needle painting kits before the Peony Type Dahlia embroidery. The instruction booklet for this kit covers just the basics and is 7 pages in length in comparison to the standard 12 - 24 pages for the beginners and intermediate instruction booklets. The kit is intended for those who already have a good grasp of the long and short stitch and satin stitch technique and only gives brief instructions of the order in which to work the embroidery and some simple how to diagrams.

The fabric comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design and the threads come wrapped on a long floss bobbin and numbered so you know exactly which colour to use.

Working the embroidery: The Peony Type Dahlia is worked in a single strand of DMC or Anchor embroidery floss in the needle at one time, embroidering the design in straight stitches. These stitches are either long and short or are all the same length but alternate in positions so that the colours blend together.

If you have any questions as you are working the peony embroidery you can email me at any time and I will be happy to help you. I am offering free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

Photo of Greize

Finished Embroidery of Greize by Pauline Garratt

Diagram One

Diagram one above shows Greize broken down into sections for each colour used. The colours of the threads are written in each section.

Diagram Two

Diagram two above shows the direction in which the stitches will be worked represented by the dotted line. The diagram is also labelled in the order in which the embroidery should be embroidered 1. being the first stage 2. being the second stage  working from the background to the foreground.

Diagram Three

Diagram three above shows the of rows of long and short stitch worked on greize and the direction in which the rows should be worked across the body.

EXAMPLE OF A NEEDLE PAINTING KIT (KNKO)

My kits come with an Instruction Booklet  approximately 12 - 24 pages long and with approximately 20 - 50 diagrams depending on the difficulty of the embroidery. The instructions are very comprehensive and are intended to guide any level of stitcher through the embroidery with out external help. I try to include the answers to all the common questions and problems that have been encountered in this technique.

The kits also include a piece of fabric with the design hand drawn, needle and a range of DMC floss's that are numbered on a floss template so you do not have to guess which colour you need to use.

Opposite and below are examples of diagrams that you will see when you purchase one of the needle painting kits.

The diagrams shown are from a kit I made up of Greize the cat, who is owned by my friend Pauline Garratt. Greize had recently passed away and Pauline wanted to work an embroidery of Greize in her memory.

For each stage of the embroidery there are diagrams and clear instructions to work the stage, explaining the stitch used and a diagram of that stitch process. Typical stitches used in a needle painting kit are long and short stitch, split stitch and satin stitch i.e.

Stage 1.

Stage 1. is of one of the feet. A split stitch line has been worked around the foot, further explanation of why a split stitch line is used in the embroidery is explained in each kit. The diagrams above shows stage 1. broken down into simple diagrams to show the stitch process of the foot.

Stage 2, 3, 5 and 6.

Clear diagrams of the method of working the long and short stitch are shown in the diagrams of the stages above. From these diagrams the embroiderer can see the direction in which the stitches should be worked and how the long and short stitch splits the stitches of the previous rows.

Stage 7.

Even small areas such as the ears have diagrams and instructions to guide you through the area.

The kit I made of Greize has a 10 page instruction booklet with about 30 diagrams covering the different stages of the embroidery.

The booklet guides the embroiderer through many aspects of needle painting, a few of the important aspects are detailed below:

  1. The proper way of starting and ending threads.

  2. Instructions to guide you through the embroidery in a certain order to create a 3-dimensional picture.

  3. How to work long and short stitch so that the stitches blend beautifully creating a realistic picture.

The kit of Greize consists of the detailed instruction booklet and the fabric with Grieze drawn on and a suggested range of DMC or Anchor embroidery floss.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for all my embroidery kits, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

EMBROIDERY SIZE

Most of my needle painting designs are between 3 inches and 6 inches wide or high. The embroidery is worked with one strand of floss and can take many hours to embroider so it is best to keep the designs small.
