A lady asked me to embroider her mother's two dogs, which she wanted made to a certain size and incorporate three types of fabrics, (the patterned white background fabric, the green mottled fabric and pink leaf patterned fabric). This piece was to be sewn up with another eight or so pieces into a quilt for her mother's eightieth birthday. Each panel would have a different element of her life. I worked from a photograph or Rory and Mugsy, I tried to capture their individual characters. Rory's fur is sewn down curly dolls hair which I have painted in certain areas with off white acrylic paints (watered down) to give his fur more depth and realism. Rory's favourite toy was his felt carrot. I have padded the carrot and used felt for the carrot. For Mugsy I applied grey and Black metallic fabrics. Over which I worked long and short stitches in DMC embroidery floss. Rory and Mugsy's eyes are embroidered with DMC floss. I embroidered Rory and Mugsy's names in couched down DMC floss.
