FABRICS FOR GOLDWORK Kid leather  /  Muslin  /  Silk Fabrics  / View Shopping Cart Kid Leather comes painted gold or silver and can be used in a variety of embroidery projects such as Modern Jacobean, Goldwork and applique. The gold or silver painted leather can be sewn down by hand or by machine. Muslin fabric (Calico in European terms) is a good quality 100% cotton fabric. Muslin fabric is an ideal ground fabric to work needle painting projects and is the ground fabric that I use in the needle painting kits. Muslin fabric also makes an ideal supporting fabric for the ground fabrics used in Goldwork. The ground fabrics can be tacked onto the muslin fabric and then placed into an embroidery frame so that both fabrics are equally tight and neither fabrics are puckering.  Silk fabrics are often used these days as a foundation for Goldwork over the traditionally used Silk Velvet fabric. I offer four shades of silk ground fabrics for use in Goldwork or other embroidery projects. MUSLIN FABRIC Muslin fabric (Calico in European terms) is 100% cotton fabric and makes an ideal supporting fabric for the silk ground fabrics used in Goldwork and a ideal ground fabric for Needle painting and other forms of embroidery. I offer a high quality Muslin fabric for embroidery projects, the warp and weft threads are closely woven allowing for very precise stitching. I wash and iron the fabric ready for working with. The muslin fabric can be used as a supporting fabric for the Goldwork silk ground fabrics and for Needle painting and other embroidery projects. SILK FABRICS Blue silk Noil is a very even dyed silk fabric with fine warp and weft threads. Brown/Green, Green and Red/Brown silk Matka are rustic silk fabrics with larger warp and weft threads that have a range of tones in the colour of the fabric. It is recommended that the silk fabrics are backed with a muslin fabric (calico in European terms) for added strength.
