GOLDWORK EMBROIDERY KITS

Goldwork or Gold Embroidery is a 3-dimensional form of hand embroidery which involves sewing down felt or string as padding and then applying gold threads over the top. Goldwork gives the impression of being very technical but, in fact, is just a system of simple embroidery techniques worked in a certain order creating beautiful results.

OR NUE DRAGONFLY

The Or Nue Dragonfly design is to be embroidered in Gold, Silver and Copper. There is a choice of two dragonfly designs in each kit, either the dragonfly on a diagonal or up right and the embroidery can also be framed in two different methods, please see the pictures opposite.

Working the embroidery: The center of the design is worked in Or Nue.

Or Nue is the couching down of passing thread using a similar colour or/and a contrasting colour to create a design on the passing thread. The dragonfly pattern is created by couching down the passing thread using a green silk thread and Metallic threads (the colours used on the gold design do not show up well in the picture).

Rococco is used to border the Or Nue design. Smooth Purl No. 7 and Bright Check No. 7 are used for the triangle shapes. The diamond shapes are worked in Or Nue and the swirls are worked in No. 1 Pearl Purl.

The Gold Or Nue Dragonfly kit comes with a choice of off white or black silk noil background fabric, you can also purchase the supplies only if you would like to work the Or Nue Dragonfly in gold, silver and copper and do not require the instruction booklet again.

What is the difference between Gilt and 2% Gold Metal threads?

HAREBELL (KG2)

The Harebell is an beginners to advanced metal thread technique, that can be worked in either gold 2%, gilt, silver or copper.

The instructions are detailed and concise, written with the beginner in mind and intended to guide embroiderers of any level through the embroidery from beginning to end. The fabric comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design.

Working the embroidery: The Harebell is worked as a 3-dimensional piece. The petals and buds are padded with yellow felt. Over the top of the felt a variety of different quality golds will be sewn by couching over the top of the gold or sewing it down like beads. In some areas coloured floss will be used to couch down the gold, in others yellow sewing thread is used. The gold is worked onto a dark green cotton velvet background which has a deep pile and is good for giving the edges of the Goldwork a neat finished look.
