BLACKWORK HORSE 1 MANGALARGA

The blackwork horse is a beginners blackwork kit.

The blackwork horse is worked in blackwork patterns on 16 count or 32 count fabric using embroidery floss.

Working the embroidery: The blackwork embroidery is worked within a tacked outline of the design with a variety of different blackwork stitches.  A three dimensional picture is created by reducing the stitches in the pattern. A large chart is included with the instruction booklet as a reference tool but the embroidery is worked in the Tissue Paper Transfer Method. The patterns are stitched from step-by-step individual diagrams and there are detailed instructions on how to work the embroidery.

I am offering free correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

There is a choice of three fabrics to work the blackwork design:

  1. The original embroidery is worked on 16 count heatherfield fabric which is 100% poly acrylic fabric, it is mottled grey with darker grey and gold flecks. It is a lovely natural looking fabric that compliments the variegated embroidery floss that is used to work the blackwork embroidery and is easy to count.

  2. The embroidery can also be worked on 32 count Belfast 100% Linen fabric which is a off-white colour fabric with uneven weave threads (different thicknesses) giving a natural look.

  3. Or 32 count Etamin 100% cotton fabric which is a off-white colour fabric with even weave threads (all threads are the same thickness) which is a nice soft fabric and is easier to see and count compared to the Belfast linen.

What is the difference between Gilt and Gold 2% WM metal threads?

HAREBELL

The Harebell is an beginners to advanced metal thread technique, that can be worked in either gold 2%, gilt, silver or copper metal threads.

The instructions are detailed and concise, written with the beginner in mind and intended to guide embroiderers of any level through the embroidery from beginning to end. The fabric and felt padding comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design.

Working the embroidery: The flowers, buds and leaves are padded with felt. Over the top of the felt a variety of different metal threads are sewn down. In some areas blue embroidery floss will be used to couch down the gold, in others yellow sewing thread is used. The embroidery is worked on a cotton velveteen background in a choice of dark green, dark blue or black. Velveteen fabric is used as it has a deep pile which is good for giving the edges of the goldwork a neat finished look. The original embroidery was worked on a dark green velveteen fabric.

HAPSBURG LACE SCISSORS CASE

This scissors case is for 3 1/2 inch long by 1 3/4 inch wide embroidery scissors such as Gingher embroidery scissors and case can be worked by beginner to advanced embroiderers, if you enjoy counted thread such as cross-stitch you will enjoy working the scissors case.

The scissors case is worked using pearl cottons on an 18 count mono canvas. In the example opposite white pearl cottons have been embroidered onto 18 count natural coloured mono canvas.

Lacy Hapsburg lace stitches are worked leaving spaces between the patterns for ribbons to be inserted. Beads are sewn down to emphasize some areas of the case. Each pattern is charted out and explained in detail how it is worked.

This case looks great using any coloured mono canvas with a contrasting pearl cotton colour, I offer natural (brown) or antique blue canvas (see bookmark below for antique blue canvas) in my kit with white pearl cotton and a light blue ribbon.

If you purchase the instruction booklet alone you can choose your own colour canvas and contrasting pearl cotton thread (more than one colour can be used) and different colour cord to give your case a unique look. If you dislike French knots, beads have proven to be an appealing substitute (to the embroiderer and the admirer), the choice is yours.

HAPSBURG BOOKMARK / MINI SAMPLER

This bookmark can be worked by beginner to advanced embroiderers, if you enjoy counted thread such as cross-stitch you will enjoy working the bookmark.

The bookmark is worked using pearl cottons on an 18 count mono canvas. In the example opposite white pearl cottons have been embroidered onto 18 count antique blue mono canvas.

The lacy stitches are worked in rows, taking care not to cross the threads over open holes at the back of the canvas because the lacy effect would be lost. Ribbons are inserted between some rows of the Hapsburg lace patterns to give a touch of colour. Each pattern is charted out and explained in detail how it is worked.

The bookmark looks great using any coloured mono canvas with a contrasting pearl cotton colour, I offer antique blue or natural (brown) canvas (see the sampler for the natural brown colour) in my kit with white pearl cotton and pale blue and pale pink ribbons.

BABY BURROWING OWL

The Baby Burrowing Owl is a beginners needle painting technique. For a complete explanation of the technique Click Here!.

The kit has detailed instructions and lots of diagrams to guide your through the embroidery. The fabric comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design and the threads come wrapped on a long floss bobbin and numbered so you know exactly which colour to use.

The Baby Burrowing Owl is also one of the designs featured in the A-Z of Thread Painting Book, The great advantage of having the kit and the book is that the kit comes with detailed instructions will lots of diagrams to work the embroidery and the book comes with step-by-step colour photos of the stages of the embroidery as a visual guide to keep you on right track. The A-Z of Thread Painting book is not required to work the embroidery but is an excellent asset if you are new to the technique.

Working the embroidery: The Baby Burrowing Owl is worked in a single strand of DMC embroidery floss in the needle at one time, embroidering the design in straight stitches. These stitches are either long and short or are all the same length but alternate in positions so that the colours blend together.

This technique will give an embroiderer good practice in the long and short technique, gaining the skills the embroiderer needs to tackle the more advanced needle painting projects i.e. the red fox and the field mouse.

If you have any questions as you are working the embroidery you can email me at any time and I will be happy to help you. I am offering free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.

PANSIES - NEEDLE PAINTING

All three Pansy needle painting embroidery kits are for beginner embroiderers.

All the Pansy kits have detailed instructions and lots of diagrams to guide your through the embroidery.  The diagrams are very clear and detailed showing how the stitches are worked on each area of the design and guiding you step by step through the embroidery from the beginning  to the end.  The diagrams are also drawn specifically for each pansy embroidery and there are no generalized diagrams.

The fabric comes with the design hand drawn on so there are no worries about transferring the design and the threads come wrapped on a long floss bobbin and numbered so you know exactly which colour to use.

Working the embroidery: Each Pansy embroidery is worked in a single strand of the DMC floss or Needle Point Silk Thread in the needle at one time, embroidering the design in straight stitches. These stitches are either long and short or are all the same length but alternate in positions so that the colours blend together. The long and short technique is explained in detail in the kit instruction booklet.

This technique will give an embroiderer good practice in the long and short technique, gaining the skills the embroiderer needs to tackle the more advanced needle painting projects i.e. the field mouse and the birds.

FLOWERS, BUTTERFLIES AND CANADIAN FLAG

The flowers, butterflies and Canada flag are for any levels of stitchers. The easiest of the designs is the black and red butterfly 3 and the hardest of the designs is the Canada Flag.

Working the embroidery: The Shadow Work stitch is a simple backstitch worked on the front of the work alternating back and forth along two lines that are parallel to each other (bands), on the back of the work herringbone is created by the stitches crossing from one edge of the band to the other. The herringbone shows through the fabric at the front of the work as an opaque band. The ends of the threads are easily finished off in the stitches at the back of the work so that they do not show up obviously in the embroidery. Each design can be displayed in a card window mat or in a clear perspex frame or in a clear perspex key ring (please see the pictures on the left and below). Each of these frames can be purchased separately below and mounting instructions are included in the booklet.

The instructions includes diagrams for working the herringbone stitch and finishing ends and an enlarged picture of the back of the embroidery so you can see how the herringbone stitch lays. I also explain how to mount the embroidery can be mounted so that the embroidery can be displayed from both sides.

I am offering free email correspondence and free on going critique for this kit, for more details go to - Free on going critique.
